“These are times that try men’s soul’s. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value.”
Thomas Paine, from The Crisis (1776-7)
I can certainly personally relate to the trying times over the past few years, as they have tried my soul as well as the souls of many others I know. Trying times though somehow become the very fuel for many to get inspired and determined by them rather than discouraged and hopeless. We can yield or we can resist. Both are choices. Our MO, “modus operandi” how we operate, navigate and function is all about our personal brand.
I have just returned from Tory Johnson’s SparkandHustle.com reunion conference (July 21-23) for entrepreneurial women in Atlanta. I was an original last July 2010, where 200 of us gathered for what would become an 8 city tour and movement in 2011. This community of women are true entrepreneurs in every sense of the world: bold, quirky, determined, risk takers, innovators full of passion and purpose. People who want to be the master of their own ships and destiny.
I love working with and being around entrepreneurs, especially today. This is a choice that not everyone is cut out for but if you are, here are 12 survival principles that have been instrumental for me and that they seem to have in common that can help anyone in their business and life success.
1) Faith-in your vision and purpose
2) Courage-to live authentically
3) Positivity-their is a silver lining in everything
4) Perseverance-keep going when you believe
5) Resilience-everything you need is already inside you
6) Flexibility-yield to the winds
7) Generosity-pay forward, give back
8) Patience-don’t give up to easily
9)Positivity-gravitate toward the good and share hope
10) Poise-stand tall and proud, no matter what
11) Intuition-go with those guts that usually are right
12) Respect- integrity with yourself and others
I choose to focus on what is possible, the positivity that is all around me, people who are doers and action people and align myself with them . I commit to being mutual, collaborative and being an active part of who and what I am involved with.
When you put yourself in the stream of positivity and possibility, it naturally picks you up and points you in the direction you are supposed to be going in! Pay attention and enjoy the scenery!
What are some of the survival principles that are working for you?
