Balancing your personal and virtual lives

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by having to keep up with Twitter, Facebook and other forms of New Media…

you’re definitely not alone. It’s really important to remember “the core”.

“The core” has been, is, and always will be making that personal connection.

As important as the New Media boom is, we all need to be careful about developing “bad habits” with regard to getting personal.

In today’s world, making personal connections happens both offline – in your ‘personal’ world, and online – in your ‘virtual’ world.

Personally, you can create, build and maintain your relationships through:

  • simple phone calls,
  • one-to-one coffee or lunch meetings,
  • visiting your customers at their location, and even
  • networking at social functions.

Virtually, you can create, build and maintain your relationships using many of the forms of New Media; such as E-mail, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Some examples include:

  • keeping communication with people by sending personal e-mails,
  • keeping your followers up-to-date with the latest in your world,
  • continuing to connect and build relationships online through the social networks, and
  • reaching out to people in online forums.

From my life experience, I have to tell you nothing beats the ‘in person experience’ – seeing you, hearing you, and hugging you! In person connections elevate the relationship each time.

Personally, I think it’s the ultimate way to connect. When like minded and like spirited people gather, magical things happen!

With that in mind, if you want to minimize the overwhelming feeling of keeping up with everything—you need to develop a strategy that balances your personal and virtual lives.

Remember: The key is BALANCING THEM, to make them work together the best.

YOUR 3 KEYS TO SUCCESS

Here’s 3 key points your strategy should include for balancing your personal and virtual lives:

  1. Keeping in constant, consistent touch both personally and virtually, especially with your inner circle (those who are your biggest cheerleaders in life, and in business)! Commit to and block time for phone calls each week!
  2. Create educational information (eBooks are great!) about the needs, wants, fears and pain relating to what you do, assure you have clear ‘calls to action’ in it (i.e. methods for those people to contact you) and GIVE IT AWAY in person (printed eBooks) and online.
  3. Give, give, give, and the receiving will happen automatically.

One of my favorite quotes is “find a need and fill it”, Ruth Vincent Peale.

It’s true, and I witness so many people who are living that philosophy and creating great success for themselves, as a natural result of putting that motive and intent out there!
