What’s Your SWAG?

The word of the year so far is SWAG..

Straight from the Urban dictionary and one of the hottest cultural terms of the moment! By definition ”It’s about appearance, style or the way he or she presents themself”.

It’s being applied to just about anything, including dental swag, which is the complementary stuff with which you leave your dentist’s office: toothbrush, dental floss, etc. Do you ever leave the office after your cleaning and say: “I think the hygienist likes me; she always loads me up with dental swag”? Maybe not yet but it is coming!

I like the term a lot. It’s fresh, new and fun. Isn’t that what personal branding is about?

Style, Vibe, Swag, Swagger.. It’s the way in which we carry and present yourself.

According to the Urban dictionary..
“Swag is the sum total of your overall confidence, style, and demeanor. Swag is also reputation for your overall swagger. You earn swag by performing swag worthy actions that improve this perception. A person can also “swag down,” by being or garnering negative swag for their actions. Swag can also be quantified, with point systems existing in some circles of friends”.

Isn’t that what building our social media communities is about?  Is having lots of friends, followers, recommendations, clout and being a sought after speaker or blogger a measure of our social and professional swag?

Call it what you like: confidence, style, demeanor, reputation. Anyone can have it.

It starts with a Sparkle, grows with your Wisdom, endures with your Authenticity and is remembered by your Generosity.

Sparkle
Wisdom
Authenticity
Generosity

That’s the Swag that has helped my brand and reputation. It’s also how people have described me. I take that very seriously.

What’s your Swag?
